The Legacy of Rains Downers’ carried with a Story of Family, Nature, Passion and Conservation.

Beneath the towering presence of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, a love for the wild took root in the hearts of our grandparents. Born amidst the flourishing landscapes of what were then vast game reserves, their connection to nature wasn’t a choice – it was destiny. These vibrant ecosystems, teeming with life, became their playgrounds, and a deep respect for the delicate balance within them became a cornerstone of their lives.

Their passion, a fire passed down through generations, ignited a spark in us, their grandchildren. We grew up listening to their several tales around the fireplace of playful elephants and a majestic Rhino who chased our grandfather forced him to go on the Broad-Leaved Croton tree, their voices filled with awe and a deep concern for the land. The game reserves, now national parks, became our own havens, where childhood adventures were woven with the whispers of the wind and the calls of exotic birds.

Witnessing the changes in the ecosystem, the increasing threats to wildlife, fueled a burning desire within us. We knew we had to carry the torch our grandparents lit, to ensure these wonders survived for generations to come.

And with no option, knowledge became to power. We enrolled ourselves at the best College of African Wildlife Management, immersing ourselves in the science of conservation in African ecosystem.

Determined to make a difference, later we joined the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI). Here, alongside dedicated researchers, we witnessed firsthand the challenges and triumphs of protecting wildlife. This experience solidified our resolve, but we craved a way to share our passion with a wider audience.

So, we transitioned into the world of tourism, fortunate enough to gain experience with a very high-end travel companies in Africa. These years honed our skills in creating unforgettable Tanzania Family Safari experiences, while also exposing us to the power of responsible travel.

It was with love of nature, passion, wealth of knowledge, experience and a burning desire to make a difference that Rains Downers’ was born.
